ABOUT US

The beginning was 1985 when I ventured out on my own following the encouragement from art directors around town, the clients I was doing work for on the side and my wife. The roller coaster ride through the years has been dotted with some great projects working alongside some brilliantly creative people. The growth and loyalty of many clients over the last 10 years created the need for expansion. In 2013, Five 17 Design was born. The name is from my favorite Bible passage, 2 Corinthians 5:17, that refers to the creative work God does in us when we give our lives to Him. I like to think that we get to be part of that creativity in the work we do for you everyday. Creativity. It lies at the heart of everything we do as we approach every project as artists with pencil in hand.

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.

THE CREW

Owner, Creative Director

I've always loved to draw, but when my fifth grade teacher told me, as she handed my book report back, that my report needed a lot of work but the drawing I had done for it was really good, I knew from that moment I wanted to be an artist. When I started in this creative field, it was the days of paste-up, rubber cement, T-squares and typesetting. Things have changed. Through my years as an art director, illustrator, photographer, designer, teacher, copy writer, and business owner I have had the opportunity to work with many creative geniuses. No matter how much our techniques and tools change, genius never does. One thing I've noticed, it seems to always show up at the end of a pencil.

Graphic Designer, Photographer

Throughout high school I participated in varsity basketball and marching and concert bands. I graduated from high school with a 4.0 GPA and decided to go to college to pursue a design career. I received an academic and athletic scholarship at Hannibal-LaGrange University. I completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art with a double emphasis in Graphic Design and Photography with a 3.975 GPA. I was blessed to have interned with a freelance graphic designer, Sheila Scholl, at SS2 Design during my senior year of college. After I graduated from college, I was hired at Lasting Expressions Portraits as one of their professional photographers. While working there, I also designed brochures, business cards, pamphlets, coupons, and other materials for their business. I joined the team here at Five 17 Design in February of 2015. I absolutely love working here. It is a wonderful, relaxing atmosphere to be around. The most important thing about me is that I absolutely love Jesus Christ. If it were not for His tender love and mercy, I would not be the thankful woman I am today. Everything I do, I want to do it all for the glory of His name.

Graphic Designer, Web Developer

My zeal for creative things began at a young age. I really appreciated music, theater, and art of all sorts. I loved the whole idea of producing something bigger, better, and more beautiful. I began to explore those avenues more into high school and found that art was where I excelled. In college I attempted to get a degree in mathematics but, after being bored stiff, I thought that I'd give graphic design a shot. I soon discovered this was exactly where I needed to be. I graduated with a Digital Media and Design degree. Basically it meant I had to have a wide range of disciplines from graphics to photography to packaging design. I joined the team here in 2013 and have been "livin the dream" since. While our focus ranges on a daily basis from print to packaging to photography, I'm the one that adds the web design to the Five 17 repertoire.

Videographer

For as long as I can remeber, I have been fascinated with the creative arts. Like most people, music has had a major influence in my life. As a youth minister and a missionary to China, music and video served significant roles in my ministry. Afterward I began a ministry, Redemption Promotions, promoting concerts and managing Christian rap and Hip Hop artists. Videoing live concerts and being involved with music videos set my course of love for video production. I now enjoy the art at many levels: filming documentaries and video production in the athletic world revolving around the University of Memphis men's basketball.
